This crime drama tells the story of two troublemaking friends who get involved in petty crimes. Always on the lookout for adventure, the two pranksters steal a car, along with the naive, sweet Marie-Ange, who eventually becomes their “half-girlfriend.” Hiding from the French gendarmes, the two friends, Jean-Claude and Pierrot, embark on a senseless escape across picturesque France. Amid all their chaotic encounters, they come across one that strikes both of them—Jeanne, a woman no longer young, who has recently been released from a place not so far away.

Jean and Pierrot spend a single night with her, after which, at dawn, Jeanne commits a terrible sin—suicide. Upon learning the terrible news, in an effort to atone for their guilt, Jean-Claude and Pierro decide to help Jeanne’s son, who is imprisoned. After his prison term ends, they wait for Jacques at the prison gates. The guys take him with them, promising to share everything, including Marie-Ange herself. Prison did not set Jacques, who had served his time, on the right path. He suggests to his “saviors” that they commit another robbery, during which Jacques commits a murder.
